This is a documentary about the death of a town.  But it’s not the usual way a town dies.  Instead of a some industry drying up and no more employment available so people move away, this is a little more impressive.

What follows are a few vampire movies that are personal favorites and are often overlooked, and a very brief reason why they are favorites.
I’m missing out the obvious (Nosferatu,  Nosferatu,  Dracula 31,  Let the Right One In and a few others that seem universally loved.)

Lemora: A Child’s Tale of the Supernatural.

On the way to see her dying father, Lila Lee stumbles upon a band of mindless vampires who haunt the town of Astaroth.  Rescued by a mysterious woman, she’s taken to Lemora’s home.  After a while, Lila discovers that Lamora, although different to the brutal mutant Astaroth vampires, is actually their “queen.”

Why you should watch it.

It’s a beautifully shot, creepy, atmospheric, mostly well acted movie.   Anyone who has a taste for the Gothic type horror movie would find plenty to enjoy here. Read More…

The second episode in the Fear Itself DVD set is Brad Anderson’s Spooked.
Going in, I had the expectation that this would be one of the better episodes of the series. Everything I’ve seen from Anderson has been good, to great. And with Session 9 being one of my favourite horror movies this already had promise.

Harry Bender is a private detective with a violent past. He makes his living on adultery cases, with a bit of blackmail thrown in for good measure.
He’s hired by a woman to keep an eye on her husband who she suspects of cheating. Arriving at the location he’s going to be working from, he finds a rundown, graffiti covered house. Settling in for a night of observation he gets a glimpse of the target. Only problem is, his partner down the street sees no lights on in the house. As the investigation continues what he’s seeing becomes stranger and stranger until his haunted past catches up with him. Read More…
