Dead Meat

On the run from drug dealers, Nic and Leo come across a recently deceased man. They show their friend Milton who believes he can resurrect the dead.
He can, but too late does he notice that the corpse has been marked by a demon. And the corpse is now out for blood and won’t rest until he’s killed them all.
This is the first episode of the UK TV series Urban Gothic, and while it’s not even close to being the best of the first series it’s a decent introduction.
It’s mostly a cleverly written episode that suffers from a couple of cheesy one liners and characters that come across as clichéd at times. But it all plays out as a bit of fun, with some dark humor adding to the feeling.
The actors portrayed their characters believably although they did seem to ham it up at times, especially at the resurrection. But given the nature of the scenes and the feel of the episode, it wasn’t too out of place.
The filmmakers did a good job with everything and there were some nice stylish shots. It looked good for a low budget show.
There were also a couple of nice moments for gore-hounds and one shot that the makers had to prove to the ITC (who were responsible for complaints at the time of airing) was an effect, and not real.
All in all, if this was the first experience of the series I had, I’d certainly continue with it.
