So far ptII

Posted by MJ under General, MJ, connections (No Responses)

It’s been about a month since I started watching movies that are connected to each other…

I’ve been watching movies (and a bit of TV) with a connection. Same actor. Same director. Same writer. something.
I’m gonna see how long I manage to keep this up, and I’m gonna try to make it a little more than “that one guy had one line in both movies.” The person has to have a significant roll in at least one of the movies.

Exceptions

  • A Wild Card movie (independent from the connections) will be allowed after a minimum of 25 connected movies
  • The wife wants to watch something (rarely at the moment as she’s addicted to Fallout New Vegas (which is the reason I’ve been watching so many movies))
  • Episodic TV is only counted if watched by the series not episode.  TV series that the episodes are not connected (Like Masters of Horror or Nightmares and Dreamscapes) would count.

Worthy (no matter how minimally) of note so far:

  1. 1. Knowing the Alien Anthology Blu-ray was on the way and knowing I’d want to watch them straight away so having to keep close for a few days
  2. 2. Deciding on one path and later getting into a different set of movies (From Event Horizon there’s a 1 step to Hellraiser which I was gonna take but got sucked into Neil Marshall’s flicks.
  3. 3. I’ve watched a lot of movies in a month

The complete list follows.

Kick Ass

From the director of Stardust and Layer Cake comes this comic book movie. For the 7 people on the internet who have never heard of this movie, browse around on whatever corner you frequent. You’ll find one of two topics. It’ll either be “OMG, awesome. A pre-teen girl brutally kills people, calls them cunts and gets shot by her dad” or “OMG, this movie is gonna cause the end of the world. It depicts a pre-teen girl brutally killing people, calling them cunts and getting shot by her father

Here at HNUM2 we fall in the latter category. This movie is just inappropriate on so many levels. Some blatant, like the above mentioned OMG, some a lot more subtle. Like Nicholas Cage’s mustache. A mustache which indicates an implied relationship that’s more than just a father/daughter relationship.

Movie Connections

Starting from Sunday day I’ve been watching movies (and a bit of TV) with a connection. Same actor. Same director. Same writer. something.

I started with Spaced season 1 on Sunday.
Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Spaced season 2 over Monday and Tuesday.
Tuesday’s continued with Stardust and Layer Cake.

wonder just how long I’ll be keeping it up.

The connections should be obvious for Spaced/Shaun/Fuzz/Spaced. Spaced then connects to Stardust via Mark Heap who played Brian Topp, the artist who rents downstairs in Spaced and Tertius in Stardust. Director Matthew Vaughn is the Stardust/Layer Cake connection.

House of the Dead

Posted by MJ under Horror, MJ, Reviews (No Responses)

Way back in 2003 I was on a bit of a zombie kick. Snatching up any zombie flick I could find. Some were good. Some were bad. Some were almost unwatchable. Browsing a site that sold US imports in the UK, I came across House of the Dead. Interested to check it out but not really wanting to spend the £17.99 they were asking for it, especially as a blind buy I’d heard nothing about. It Uwe Boll Shakespeare's HOTDhadn’t been released in the UK yet either. Checking ebay I came across a used copy for a price I was willing to risk.

When it arrived, I realized I’d been ripped off. Not because the price was too high, but because the DVD was bootleg. Little things gave it away. The “believe us, this is totally genuine” type hologram. The badly printed disc art. The DTS track being out of synch. The fact that the movie was directed by…
